The following tips from us, at Cottage Fence, will give you a better idea of how to take care of a few common problems with regards to
fence repair
.
Replacing the posts
Posts often get unseated or sink further due to loose soil. They could also be weak due to
wood rot or physical damage. Replacing fence posts does need more effort than other fence repairs due to the fact it holds up so many other parts of the fence.
Putting posts in the ground where they will not become unseated is often a matter of debate and engineering. Remove your bad post, this is done by first separating the fence panels from both sides. This is best done using a saw and a lever. Pull the panel back, then saw through the nails, and you are good to go. Then pull the post up by digging around the post or just levering it out, when it has not been set in concrete that is.
Lastly, put in your new post in whichever fashion that matches your original construction. Should you be upgrading or changing all the posts, it will be easier to remove everything beforehand, and then replace them after. When you are performing piecemeal repairs, it is better to do each repair individually, as it will help to maintain the stability of your fence.
Removing Damage
There are various ways wood gets damaged over time. Even though the longevity of wood is an average is 30 plus years, individual sections will often get more wear than the rest. Removing wood which is damaged
by weathering or impact must be done carefully. As this will help to preserve as much of the surrounding wood as possible. Also, it makes it easier to put in new wood which will match the old areas without them looking like splices. If you live in or around the Waretown, NJ area and need some
